10 Easy Hobbies Anyone Can Start (Even While Pregnant)

Being pregnant doesn’t have to be the end of things you enjoy. In fact, sharing your hobbies with your baby sparks interest in their own mind, and it’s something that you can continue to do together throughout your life. But finding a hobby to do while pregnant can be tough. Here are a couple of ideas to help you develop safe, fun, and inexpensive hobbies you can enjoy while pregnant:

#1: Make Sourdough Bread

Making sourdough bread is an act of love and patience, but it is so rewarding, and homemade bread is so good. It can be tough to get started, but once you get the hang of it, you can make as much bread as you want! Plus, it makes for a great gift to give to loved ones for birthdays.

#2: Gardening

Gardening has so many benefits to it. From giving you an excuse to get some fresh air, to relieving stress, to producing fresh veggies you can enjoy, gardening can go a long way. Do some research on the types of plants you can grow with the space you have. It might be that you can grow a lot on land you may have, or maybe a simple herb garden on your windowsill will work better. Whatever it may be, gardening is worth it!

#3: Houseplants

Along a very similar line as gardening is having houseplants, but they are even easier to take care of. Look at your home and decide where some plants can go and what light you have, then go to a local greenhouse or home improvement store and pick some up!

#4: Puzzles

Puzzling is so fun, and works parts of your brain that you don’t usually use! 1,000 piece puzzles are the perfect size if you are looking for a project you can do for a couple of weeks, or you can start with a 500 piece if you want something a bit simpler.

#5: Jewelry Making

Making your own jewelry is actually easier than you would think. Earrings are the easiest, but you can also make bracelets, necklaces and rings! Craft stores or Amazon tend to have a lot of supplies you can choose from to help you get started, or you can try to thrift some old jewelry and rework those parts into new pieces.

#6: Journaling

Journaling is such a good way to remember little moments of your pregnancy (or life in general) that you would have otherwise forgotten. Keep track of things like cravings, food aversions, timeline of when the baby kicked and more. You can even write letters to your baby that they can read in the future.

#7: Painting

Painting can be so freeing! You can choose to use watercolors, or go for a more formal look of acrylic paints. Whatever it may be, painting gives you an outlet to just be creative. Look up a tutorial, attend a local class, or just go for it!

#8: Cooking and Baking

Cooking and baking can seem daunting when you are first learning, but it can save you so much money and is a lot better for your overall health. Pick out a cookbook or find a cooking blog online, and go from there! And don’t forget to make a little extra for lunch the next day.

#9: Reading

There are so many good books at the thrift store or library that are just waiting for you to read them! You can stick them in your purse to read on the bus or in the park, or you can curl up at home and read there. Reading is not only fun and relaxing, but it is so good for your brain!

#10: Nature Walks

Walking is so fun to do, especially when the weather is getting better. Find a podcast or a playlist, or just listen to nature, and start walking. There are usually paths in every neighborhood, or you can drive to a scenic place near you and start your walk there. This is also a great way to stay active during your pregnancy, and it’s even a great thing for you to enjoy with your baby when it arrives!

Developing skills and hobbies during your pregnancy can be so good for you. It is important to maintain a sense of self during parenthood, and developing hobbies before the baby is born can help you with that! Whatever hobby you choose, make sure it’s something you love to do and that relaxes you when things get stressful.
